Wine To Go!

There are a lot of ways to enjoy wine these days aside from the traditional bottle, corkscrew, and glass. There's boxed wine, canned wine, even a wine dispensing purse (just to name a few). I have tried very few of these new ways to enjoy wine, but I have been caught without a corkscrew enough times that it is time to change that! Today we are talking about Votto Vines' VinaaGo. It is a single serving of wine in a convenient, unbreakable container. It comes in several varietals including, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Moscato, and more. The advantages are portability, easy to open (in case you don't have a corkscrew), recyclable container, and a one year shelf life. Seems like the perfect wine to enjoy on the go. Of course, despite the cup holder size, do NOT enjoy it while driving. Just had to put that out there.

Clearly, there are advantages, but what is the point if the wine is undrinkable. We are only talking about two beverages today. Let's start with the Cabernet. My first thought was, 'Hey, this actually tastes like wine!' It even has tannins. This is a surprisingly drinkable wine, especially once you give it a minute to breath. It is fairly unremarkable, but I have to hand it to them, it isn't bad. I would definitely drink this in a pinch. It is a completely inoffensive wine, which I could see being a good companion when you are on the go and have limited space.

The other "flavor" I tasted was the red sangria. I am by no means a sangria snob, but I did not enjoy this one very much. The smell of it was very unappealing. I dropped a few ice cubes into the container to see if that would help, but unfortunately it did not. The taste is sweet, but not sickeningly so. In the end, I couldn't get past the smell. It was almost musky. I would recommend passing on this one.

In the end, the Cabernet Sauvignon is drinkable, and not a bad choice if you are looking for wine in a convenient travel container. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend the sangria, but I may have to give some of their other varietals a try now.
