O is for Opportunity

It is almost Thanksgiving. A time to reflect on all the things we are grateful for in life. I love to sit with my kids and talk about what they

are thankful for this year. Usually the first few things are wonderful and make me feel like I have done a great job raising humble children who know what is important in life. They say things like family, friends, good neighbors, and plenty of food. The problem is when I let them go on too long they start saying things like their tablet and favorite apps, their stuffed animals, toy stores, marshmallows, chocolate, Halloween candy, etc. etc... Oh well, so much for my dreams of winning parent of the year (Just kidding, that was never on the table)! One of the things I am grateful for is my education. I feel lucky to have been able to go to school, not only for being able to pass my classes (trust me, Calculus was looking iffy for most of the semester), but also for being able to afford to go. Education is expensive. You might be wondering right about now, what does any of that have to do with wine? A friend of mine recently told me about this great value wine with a cause. She even donated a bottle (thank you)! the wine we are talking about today actually sponsors a scholarship program for low income women. How great is that?! You can buy a bottle of wine, and contribute to a worthwhile scholarship program.

O Wines is from Columbia Valley in Washington State. I tried their 2010 red blend. This is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet and Syrah. One of the best things about this wine is the price. You can find it for $10 or less depending on your location. For the price, this is a very nice table wine. On the nose you get pleasant dark berry and jam flavors. There isn't a lot to the structure, but it does have nice cherry and even cocoa flavors. There is a hint of baking spice but it is pretty subtle. This would make a great weekday wine. I could see myself cooking with this wine, and maybe even adding it to the saucepan! Sorry, bad joke.

If you are looking for a good value with a heart a heart of gold give O Wines a try!
